Scottish Energy Exports to Rest of UK Double

Scotland’s latest energy statistics, published today by the Scottish Government, reveal a surge in electricity exports to the rest of the UK. In 2018, electricity exports from Scotland almost doubled from 12,868 GWh in 2017 to 24,379 GWh in 2018. Scotland continues to lead the UK in renewable energy – with provisional figures from the report indicating that 75% of Scotland’s gross electricity consumption was from renewable sources – an increase on 70% achieved in 2017. 96% of New Parents Benefitting From baby Boxes

New figures have revealed that 14193 of families in Edinburgh have benefitted from a Baby Box, as the Scottish Government announced a new design in time for Mother’s Day. Across the country, over 80,000 Baby Boxes have been delivered since April 2017. The new Baby Box was created by a team of young people, including Sonny Robertson, 17, from Trinity Academy in Edinburgh. The new boxes will also encourage families to become more environmentally friendly, with parents-to-be receiving a voucher for a reusable cloth nappy, and liners. Unemployment has fallen to a record-low in Scotland, as latest figures show Scottish economic growth outperforming the rest of the UK. Levels of unemployment have reached a new low of 3.4% in Scotland, outperforming the rest of the UK – with UK unemployment at 3.9%. New figures released by the Scottish Government estimate that businesses across The City of Edinburgh will save £4.5M thanks to an SNP policy to protect small businesses. The Scottish Government’s Small Business Bonus Scheme provided £24M of support for businesses across Edinburgh in 2017/18 – an 38% rise on the previous year.
