Community Gathers for a Blooming Great Tea Party

MSP for Edinburgh Pentlands has teamed up with Marie Curie to fundraise for the charity’s care and support by hosting a “Blooming Great Tea Party”, in his constituency office.

Inspired by a growing love of baking, the Blooming Great Tea Party, is part of a campaign by Marie Curie that encourages people to get together with family, friends, or colleagues to serve cakes and cuppas to raise funds for people living with a terminal illness. The funds raised helps Marie Curie to employ nurses to provide care in people’s own homes, when they need it the most, day or night. Nine hospices are also located at the heart of communities around the country, including the Edinburgh Hospice on Frogston Road West.

Last year people across Scotland took part in over 600 Marie Curie Blooming Great Tea Parties, raising over £86,000 to help provide care and support for over 8,000 people and their families every year in their own homes. During the Summer of 2017, MSPs, including Gordon Macdonald, held Blooming Great Tea Parties in their constituency areas raising over £3,100 – that helped fund over 155 Marie Curie nursing hours across Scotland. The MSP for Edinburgh Pentlands is hoping this year will be an even bigger success, as Marie Curie celebrate their 70th Anniversary.

Commenting SNP MSP for Edinburgh Pentlands, Gordon Macdonald, said, “I was so pleased to see many people from the local community join us for a cup of tea or coffee and some cake. Thanks to everybody’s generosity, we raised around £200 at our event for the charity.

“It’s a simple and effective way to raise funds for the charity that provides such a vital service. Every pound raised helps Marie Curie Nurses care for someone living with a terminal illness locally and their family. I would encourage people to host their own tea party.”
