Soft Opt Out Organ Donation Scheme

SNP MSP Gordon Macdonald has welcomed the Scottish Government’s decision to introduce legislation for a soft opt-out system of organ and tissue donation, which was backed by 82% of those who contributed to their consultation. The 14-week consultation looked at various ways to increase the number of people being referred to the donation services in Scotland. Currently in Scotland, organ and/or tissue donation after a person’s death only occurs if they have given advance authorisation or if their nearest relative authorises on their behalf. Childhood Abuse Bill for Survivors Seeking Justice

Gordon Macdonald for Edinburgh Pentlands has welcomed the passage of the Limitation Childhood Abuse Scotland Bill in the Scottish Parliament. The Bill, which will have retrospective effect, removes the three year time limit in which victims of childhood abuse can bring a civil action against their abuser – meaning that survivors can pursue justice later in life. Balerno Green Belt Development

Exhibition for Comments & Objections Wednesday 7 June, 3:30pm-9:00pm, Balerno Community Centre Developers Clarendon intend to build 60 houses on Green Belt land adjacent to the Glenbrook/Johnsburn junction. This development, if it goes ahead, will set a precedent that will enable more houses to be built in the Green Belt land around Balerno. Each new house will also likely put an additional car onto the already congested Lanark Road in the morning and put pressure on local services and schools.
